Not all animals, it turns out, take the conventional route when it comes to bringing their young into the world. Some go for... let’s say, creative alternatives. Take the female hyena, for example. Rather unusually, she gives birth through an extended part of her anatomy—which, as you might imagine, isn’t exactly ideal for the task.

This rather odd evolutionary quirk can make the whole process quite complicated and, at times, rather uncomfortable for everyone involved.
